3.1 Intel i350 Ethernet Controller
The Intel i350 is the main interface between the Server PCIe bus and the Target Media
Accelerator Processors. The PCIE-7205 card utilizes the i350-AM2 variant which has a x4 PCIe
Gen 2 bus going to the Gold Fingers of the PCIe edge card. The other side of the i350 are two
Gigabit Ethernet Buses, each Gigabit Ethernet link goes to one MCP accelerator.
3.1.1 Gigabit
Each Gigabit link travels through a single Gigabit Ethernet Transformer as shown in Figure 3-1 .
There are two links and therefore two Gigabit Ethernet Transformers on board. Each MCP
accelerator sends and receives traffic over the Gigabit Ethernet link.
3.1.2 PCIe
The other side of the i350 is the PCIe communicating to the server through the PCIe slot gold
fingers, in x4 Gen2 mode. Aggregate 20Gbps throughput on the PCIe bus.
3.2 CPU Complex
Each CPU complex consists of a MCP (Multi-Chip Package), combining both an i5-5350U
(Broadwell) mobile processor, with an Intel QM87 Chipset (Lynx Point), all on the same BGA
package. Each MCP is connected to an Intel i218 (Clarkville) providing Gigabit Ethernet to the
i350.
Each MCP complex also has 8GB (4GB each channel) dual interleaved DDR3 memory running
at DDR3-1600J speed for a total 8 or 16 GB of memory on each PCIe card.
3.3 CPLD
3.3.1 Programming the CPLD
The CPLD controls the power supply on the PCIE-7205. By design the board will not power up
in a PCIe slot without the CPLD programmed.
