11.2 Cleaning the Optical Surfaces
After prolonged use, it is likely that some contamination will occur on the
optical surfaces of the Model 4200. The time taken for significant contamination
to occur depends very much on the nature of the installation. but in a typical
situation it should be sufficient to clean the optics every 90 days. Two optical
components should be cleaned, using the lens cloth supplied by Land Instruments
International.
Note
Always ensure the lens cloth is kept clean. A dirty lens cloth can
scratch the optical surface and cause permanent damage to the
Model 4200. Replacement lens cloths can be purchased from Land
Instruments International. Warning: avoid finger contact with the
reflector surface.
Disconnect the power and signal cables before commencing. To
clean the retro-reflector remove the top plate on the retro-reflector
loosen the 2 securing screws, slide the plate towards the stack until
clear of the securing screws, then lift up and out to expose the
reflector plate. Carefully wipe the surface of the retro-reflector with
the lens cloth then replace the plate in a reverse sequence. Tighten
the two securing screws.
To clean the mains lens, open the transmissometer housing by undoing the four
M8 nuts that secure the main body to the purge assembly. Do not disturb the
purge assembly.
Remove the two M4 screws holding the lens assembly securing plate, remove the
plate and gasket . Withdraw the lens assembly. Wipe the lens using the lens
cloth. Replace in the reverse order (renew gasket if necessary). Check all nuts
and screws are fully tightened.
