5.2 Standpipe Installation
The Land Model 4200 is supplied with two mounting flanges with sleeves which
are used to mount the transmissometer onto the stack/duct. The sleeves are 128
mm [5.24in] long (Fig 5-3/5-4). If necessary, shorten or lengthen the sleeves
when mounting to obtain the proper measurement path. Unstable mounting
bases such as thin sheet metal walls may require supplemental bracing (Figure
5-5).
Important: The flanges must be mounted so that the transmissometer directly
faces the retro-reflector across the centre of the stack/duct. Since most
applications involve a vertical stack the axis common to both flanges must be
level or perpendicular to the direction of gas flow. The flanges must be aligned
so that the deviation in the mounting angle between the two flanges does not
exceed 1°.
Accurately mark the centre of each flange on the stack and punch a locating mark
through the liner onto the inner stack plating. Cut a hole from the liner large
enough to allow eventual welding of the O.D. of the flange stub to the stack. A
hole is then cut through the stack plate material at the punched location mark on
the transmissometer unit side of the stack. A 6 mm to 12 mm [0.25in to 0.50in]
pilot hole at the retro-reflector locating mark can also be cut at this time.
Ensure that the mounting flange installation positioning marker is in the 12
o'clock position and tack weld the transmissometer flange into place. The
mounting flange plate must be aligned parallel to the stack wall. These
conditions must be carefully met to ensure success in accomplishing proper
alignment.
