Step 7 Attach Serial Ports

Onboard Adapters The Goliath baseboard has:

•

two serial ports (J5 and J6),

•

a parallel port (J7),

•

an IDE controller on the PCI bus. The IDE connector is J2.

•

a floppy connector (J3).

The serial and parallel port connectors are described below.

Conflicts

AMIBIOS minimizes conflicts between onboard and offboard I/O devices.

AMIBIOS automatically checks the adapter cards installed in the expansion
slots on the Goliath baseboard for a hard disk or floppy controller and serial or
parallel ports.

J6, J5 Serial

J6 and J5 are 10-pin connectors that provide an AT-compatible serial port
interface. Connect the cables supplied with the Goliath system to the
customized American Megatrends 10-pin to 9-pin D type cable to the 10-pin
serial connectors. The serial port base I/O port address and other serial port
settings can be selected in Peripheral Setup in WINBIOS Setup. The serial
connector pinout is shown below.
