8. Cleaning-disinfection-sterilisation
Clean – disinfect – sterilize the complete resuscitator thoroughly after each
patient use or if used in a patient/environment with infectious diseases.
8.1. Disassembly
The resuscitator must always be disassembled for cleaning as shown.
Mark IV (6.1), Mark IV Baby (6.2).
CAUTION
Do not try to disconnect the patient connector from the patient valve (permanent
snap fit). Do not disassemble parts further than shown. Mark IV (6.3), Mark IV Baby (6.4)
8.2. Cleaning procedure
Wash the parts in water using a detergent that is compatible with the materials of
the resuscitator.
Rinse all parts thoroughly in clean water to remove all detergent residues.
If the exterior faces of the resuscitator bag are to be cleaned and/or disinfected,
check that the detergent and/or disinfectant used is compatible with the materials
of the resuscitator. Make sure that all residues are removed completely by rinsing
with clean water. If the residue is allowed to dry on the resuscitator, the life of the
materials may be reduced. An automatic washing machine with a programme for
washing anaesthetics equipment is applicable.

8.4. Detergents and chemical disinfectants
Use only brands that are compatible with the resuscitator materials to avoid reduc-
tion in the lifetime of the materials. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer of
the detergent or chemical disinfectant for dilution and exposure time.
CAUTION
Avoid using substances containing phenol to clean the product. Phenol will
cause premature wear and degradation of the materials or reduced product
life span.
Promptly remove all residue of cleaning materials from the resuscitator.
Residues may cause premature wear or reduced product life span.
The following steps are generally recommended. Select proper methods for
the resuscitator parts in question according to the table above.
