Planning a Stack
The guidelines to planning a stack are:
A stack can have up to four IE510 series switches.
Switches connected with Allied Telesis TwinAx cables should be
installed in a 19-inch or 23-inch equipment rack and not be more
than the length of the cable apart. The end switches must not be
more than a cable length apart if you want to create the ring
topology, shown in Figure 12 on page 40 and Figure 13 on page
41.
The wiring topology of the stack may be either linear or ring. Both
topologies offer the same in terms of speed, but the ring topology
adds wiring redundancy.
You can use combinations of Allied Telesis TwinAx cables and
SFP+ modules with fiber optic cables when the individual switches
of the stack are at various distances from each other.
The IE510 series stack may not contain other stacking switches.
The switches do not need any additional software for stacking.
You may not install a networking device, such as a media
converter or Ethernet switch, between two fiber optic stacking
transceivers.
All the switches must have the same licenses of optional features.
If you install an optional feature on one switch, you must install it on
all switches before assembling the stack.
