Mounting the Switch
Two people are required when lifting the OS8800 chassis. Due to its weight, lifting the chassis unassisted
can cause personal injury. If you need to move the switch, be sure to power it down and remove all
modules and power supplies. For instructions on removing CMM or NI modules, refer to
“Network Interface (NI) Modules.”
For instructions on removing SFMs, refer to
For instructions on removing power supplies, refer to
Note.
Due to their weight and airflow requirements, OS8800 switches cannot be wall-mounted.
Airflow Considerations
Be sure that your switch is placed in a well-ventilated, static-free environment. Always allow adequate
clearance at the front and sides of the switch, as well as behind the switch’s fan trays (located at the top-
front and middle-rear of the chassis). The following top-view diagram shows recommended minimum
clearances for adequate airflow.

Note.
Never obstruct the air intake vents located at the bottom-left, bottom-front, bottom-right, and
middle-right sides of the chassis
or
the fan unit’s air output vents located at the top-left, top-front, top-
right, top-rear, and middle-rear of the chassis. Clearance is not required at the top and bottom of the chas-
sis.
Power Supply Considerations
The power source socket-outlet must be installed near the chassis and must be easily accessible.
