System Overview
The BDSU system is a flexible and modular architecture that permits virtually any battery system to be
monitored. Careful consideration has been given to obtain the best–fit scenario for a required battery
system. Referencing the figure below, there are three modules that define a typical system:
System Control Module or UXCM – Collects, stores and manages battery data
System Acquisition Module or UXSM – Collect System related Information
Battery Assessment Module or UXBM – Collect battery related information
The system architecture supports monitoring of up to 320 cells or mono–blocks and can be assigned up
to 32 batteries or strings. To clarify terminology; a battery consists of one or more parallel strings. As an
example, two UPSs with four strings of 40 – 12V mono–blocks on each UPS/Battery would monitor a
total of 320 mono–blocks.
The following is an example of only two strings.
