The user can also try to enter User Password again. If the current User Password is
correctly verified, setting a new empty User Password will unlock the HDD and
disables the Security feature also.

NOTE

Once a HDD is locked, entering a User or Master Password is only valid one time at Setup screen. When it

fails another try needs a prior power cycle. There is no warning sign if tried a second or third time without

power cycling, but any password will be rejected invalid even if it would be correct.

8.3.13

Erase HDD Password(s)

The password function is a powerful security feature designed to prevent
unauthorized access to the HDD. If the user does no longer know the password, user
will be unable to access the media information. Brute forcing the User password is
annoying slow as the HDD has to be power cycled every 3 tries.

The password is stored in the electronic of the HDD and in the service area of the
platter itself; not to be confused with the POST password, which is stored in the
CMOS RAM of the SBC. Removing the drive from SBC and installing in a different
SBC will not help.

While the device lock is intended to be impossible to defeat without a valid
password, there are workarounds to unlock a HDD. A few data recovery companies

offer such unlocking services. This doesnʹt mean that

Abaco is able to offer the same

service.

NOTE

In the case a user has entered a User Password but NO Master Password and the User password is lost

please contact factory for help before accessing any recovery company.

8.3.14

Security Frozen

To prevent the Security Feature from being abused the SBC firmware freezes all
security settings prior to loading the operating system. This prevents any application
and also malware to change the user hard disk password after booting.

The device in this state allows no change to passwords but is able to boot. A Frozen
status can be left only by next power cycle. A cold or warm reset does not change the
status. The
