To minimize SNMP traffic on your network, you can implement
trap-based polling. Trap-based polling allows the management station to
start polling only when it receives certain traps. Your management
applications must support trap-based polling for you to take advantage
of this feature.
34 Port Monitor
Trap 3C System MIB,
Port Monitor
Table This trap is generated when the system
has exceeded the excessive collision,
multiple collision, late collision, runt
packet, or FCS error thresholds. This
could be due to a duplex mismatch or a
malfunctioning device on the port. Layer
2 modules only.
35 QOS Intruder QOS MIB This trap is generated when a user
attempts to access a network
restricted
with a QoS One-Way TCP Filter. The
trap contains the following
information:

Source IP Address
■
Destination IP Address
■
Destination IP Port Number
■
QoS Classifier Number
To prevent a denial-of-service (DOS)
attack, the system will not generate
more than one QOS Intruder trap per
second. Thus, an attacker cannot flood
a management station with traps or
overload a switch’s ability to pass or
handle messages.
