ZAP MOTOR-‐CONTROL SYSTEM FOR RESIDENTIAL DOORS
Patents Granted and Pending
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The 8825-‐R4 Residential Operator comprises:
An 88701 Control Head with LED illumination;
An 8800-‐R4 Control Box with illuminated push
button and field wiring compartment;
Two keyfob transmitters with one sun-‐visor clip
and one wall-‐mounted transmitter holder;
One optional automatic electronic door lock;
A Bowden cable manual override system;
And a monitored photo-‐eye kit.
The control head is suitable for operating doors
up to 1,280lb and 280 square feet or with a
maximum cable drum diameter of 9.38”.
8825-‐R4
The ZAP 8825-‐R4 operates without limit
switches by monitoring the motor load and door
position. It interprets a sudden increase in load
as either an obstruction or the limit of door
travel depending on the door position.
A significant advantage of the ZAP drive system
with its soft start and its fast obstruction
sensing, is that when an object obstructs the
door’s travel, the cables will probably never
jump off the cable drums even on low headroom
rear torsion doors.
BEFORE INSTALLING THE OPERATOR
With the door fully open, rotate the door shaft
to ensure that the door will roll forwards under
its own weight (Pic 2). If it won’t then raise the
rear of the track or fit a set of buffer springs.
Vertical lift doors may require a set of buffer
springs to provide a physical end stop.

Next move the door by hand from closed to
open and back to closed again. Check that it is
either perfectly balanced or biased slightly open
if perfect balance can’t be achieved.
If the door movement is stiff at any point, the
cause of the problem should be identified and
fixed by a qualified person. The door must move
smoothly by hand pressure without significant
force or sudden changes in the effort required to
move the door (Pic 3).
