PowerOn Retries
The
Z21 XL Booster
has a configurable
"PowerOn Retries"
feature. With this, you can set the number of
attempts for (re)switching on the booster track output.
When PowerOn Retries are activated, the booster automatically tries to switch on the track output several
times in succession in the event of excessive inrush currents. Only if the inrush current is still measured
during the last test, then this is evaluated and reported as a short circuit.
These repeated switch-on attempts can be helpful, for example, if your passenger coaches or
system lightings are still equipped with
incandescent lamps
. When switched on, the inrush current in a
cold
metal wire incandescent lamp
, the inrush current can be up to fifteen times the normal value. Only
when the filament comes up to temperature, then the current drops to the nominal value. This switch-on
behavior of so-called
"PTC thermistors"
can possibly lead to the much too high inrush current being
interpreted as a short circuit by the boosters and control units.
With activated PowerOn repetitions, however, the lamps can heat up through the multiple switch-on
attempts to such an extent that the switch-on current decreases with each attempt and finally the booster
part can still be successfully put into operation despite initial inrush currents of over 6 A. The
Z21 XL
BOOSTER
thus becomes more fault-tolerant towards excessive inrush current peaks,
without unnecessarily overloading the electronic components.
If you frequently observe short-circuit messages in your booster section that only occur when the system
is switched on or when it is switched on again after an emergency stop, you can activate the PowerOn
repetitions via the configuration and increase the number of switch-on attempts. Start with a low value. At
the same time, leave the configuration of the
response speed of the short-circuit detection to normal
,
otherwise the incandescent lamps may not have enough time to reach a suitable temperature.
The
factory state
of the PowerOn retries is 0, i.e.,
deactivated
.
The adjustable
value range
goes from
0 to maximal 8
switch-on repetitions.
To change the setting, see also chapter "STOP Button and Configuration".
