Predelivery check
Checking the engine oil level
Make sure that the engine is filled with en-
gine oil before operating the outboard mo-
tor for the first time. Otherwise, the engine
could be damaged severely.

Check:
• Engine oil level
Not at the proper level
Add or extract
the engine oil.

Place the outboard motor in an upright po-
sition.
If the outboard motor is not level, the oil lev-
el indicated on the dipstick may not be cor-
rect.

Start the engine and warm it up for 5–10
minutes.
c.
Stop the engine and leave it off for 5–10
minutes.
d.
Remove the top cowling.
e.
Remove the dipstick “1” and wipe it clean.
f.
Insert the dipstick “1” completely for a cor-
rect measurement and remove it again.
g.
Check that the oil level indicated on the
dipstick “1” is between the upper mark “a”
and the lower mark “b”. If the engine oil is
not at the proper level, add or extract en-
gine oil.

Checking the battery
Battery electrolyte is dangerous; it con-
tains sulfuric acid, which is poisonous and
highly caustic. Always follow these preven-
tive measures:
• Avoid bodily contact with electrolyte as it
can cause severe burns or permanent eye
injury.
• Wear protective eye gear when handling
or working near batteries.
Antidote (EXTERNAL):

KIN - Wash with water.
• EYE

- Flush with water for 15 minutes
and get immediate medical attention.
Antidote (INTERNAL):
• Drink large quantities of water or milk fol-
lowed with milk of magnesia, beaten egg,
or vegetable oil. Get immediate medical
attention.
Batteries generate explosive, hydrogen
gas. Always follow these preventive mea-
sures:
• Charge batteries in a well-ventilated area.
• Keep batteries away from fire, sparks, or
open flames (for example, welding equip-
ment and lighted cigarettes).
