SHIMMING (F15A/F9.9C)
NOTE:
9
There is no need to select shims when
reassembling with the original case and
inner parts.
9
Shim calculations are required when
reassembling with the original inner parts
and a new case (the difference between
the original inner parts and the new case).
9
Measurements and adjustments are
required when replacing an inner part(s).
SHIM SELECTION
(FOR USA AND CANADA)
Pinion gear shim
1. Measure:

Pinion gear clearance (with a thick-
ness gauge)
Out of specification
→
Adjust.

Specified clearance
a
:
3.5 mm ~ 3.7 mm (0.14 ~ 0.15 in)
Measurement steps:
8
Install the pinion height gauge
1
onto the gear case, not onto the
tapered roller bearing.
8
Install the drive shaft components
and tighten the pinion gear nut.
8
Attach the pinion height gauge
1
onto the other pinion height gauge

as shown.
8
Measure the clearance
a
with a
thickness gauge and determine the
proper shim to use.
