Checking the ignition spark gap
1. Disconnect the spark plug caps from the
spark plugs.
2. Connect the spark gap tester to the spark
plug cap.

3. Set the specified spark gap length on the
adjusting knob.

4. Crank the engine and observe the spark
through the discharge window of the spark
gap tester. If it does not work properly, check
the plug cap, ignition coil, or the specified
peak voltages.

• Do not touch any of the connections of the
spark gap tester leads.
• Do not let sparks leak out of the removed
spark plug caps.
• Keep flammable gas or liquids away, since
this test can produce sparks.
Checking and replacing the spark plug
caps (Standard type)
1. Check the spark plug caps for cracks or dam-
age. Replace if necessary.
