8. Remove the crankcase.

Loosen the bolts in the sequence shown.
9. Check the crankcase for corrosion. Also
check the mating face of the crankcase and
the cylinder block for possible distortion.

Removing the piston, connecting rod
assembly, and the crankshaft
1. Loosen the connecting rod bolts to pull out
the piston toward the cylinder head.
• Take precautions not to scratch the cyl-
inder sleeve surface with the connecting
rod big end when pulling out the piston.
• On the plane of the connecting rod / con-
necting rod cap mating area, mark the cyl-
inder number from which they came with
a permanent marker, so that the original
condition of the mating face can be re-
stored.
• Removed bearings must be sorted out
and kept in order so that they will not be
mixed up.
2. Remove the crankshaft.

Removed roller bearings shall be placed in
order on the table, with the split parts mated
together.
