3.24 Fax and Copy Operations
Receiving Automatically in ANS/
FAX Mode
For this mode, you MUST attach an answering machine to
the EXT. jack on the back of your machine (see page 1.17).

Press and hold down the Rcv. Mode/Contrast button
until the mode changes, release the button. Repeatedly
press the
Rcv. Mode/Contrast button until the display
shows “ANS/FAX,” then press the Start/Enter button.
Any incoming calls will be answered by the answering
machine. The caller can then leave a message on the
answering machine.

If a fax tone is detected on the line, the fax receive
mode is automatically activated.

OTES
:
• If you set your machine to ANS/FAX mode and your
answering machine is switched off, or no answering
machine is connected to the WorkCentre Pro 580, the
machine will automatically go into FAX receive mode after
6 rings.
• If your answering machine has a ‘user-selectable ring
counter’, set it to answer incoming calls within 1 ring.
• If the WorkCentre Pro 580 is in TEL mode and an
answering machine is connected to the machine, turn off
the answering machine. This will prevent the answering
machine’s outgoing message from interrupting your
phone conversation.
• If DRPD Mode is selected, you must first set DRPD Mode
to OFF. See “Setting User-Selectable Features” on
page 3.5
