Switching Capacitive Loads
When the digital power outputs of the PROFIsafe I/O module are used to switch
loads that have a low current consumption with a relatively large capacity, the
"Short circuit to VCC" diagnostic can occur if the configurable test pulse duration
and output tolerance time is set too short. In this case, the load capacity is not
unloaded fast enough. This can be solved by configuring a longer test pulse
duration and output tolerance time for the output concerned and/or by increasing
the load current, for example, by shunting a resistance to the load. The following
figure shows the relationship between the configurable test pulse duration or
output tolerance time, load current and switchable capacity. Make sure that you
achieve a load current below the limit line of a test pulse duration.

"Short circuit to VCC" diagnostic when uding capacitive loads
If the value of the
Test pulse duration
and/or the
Output tolerance time
parameters of a digital power output are set too short, the PROFIsafe I/O module
may report a "Short circuit to VCC" diagnostic. In this case, you must adjust the
values of the
Test pulse duration
and/or
Output tolerance time
parameters
based on the load current and capacity.
