Genlock:
Genlock attempts to lock the input and output frame rates exactly to avoid
occasional dropped frames. Another advantage of Genlock is that it minimizes lip-sync delay
and keeps it constant. To enable Genlock, select it from the Input Adjust menu and set it to
ON.
Input Name
You can give each input configuration memory a descriptive name. To do this, select Input
Name from the Image Adjust menu and follow the on-screen instructions. The left- and
right-arrows (
,
) select which input to change and then which character to change; the
up- and down-arrows (
,
) change the selected character.
DVI Setup
HDCP:
Some DVI sources limit functionality when driving HDCP-capable devices, such as
disabling their analog outputs, even though they do not require HDCP capability. Set HDCP
to OFF to disable HDCP capability for the current DVI input memory.
EDID:
Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) is a VESA-standard data format that
contains basic information about a display device and its capabilities, including vendor
information, maximum image size, color characteristics, factory pre-set timings, frequency
range limits, model and serial number.
EDID is stored in the display device and is communicated to a signal source (such as a PC)
when the source is turned on. The source uses this information for configuration purposes, so
it and the monitor can work together.
DVI sources often read a display device’s capabilities directly from the display. With a
VDP-80-720 between the display and the source, it may be desirable to use the
VDP-80-720-specific information (DEFAULT), to pass the display device information to the
source (PASS), or to not report EDID data at all (OFF). This command selects which option to
use.
HOT-PLUG:
Each VDP-80-720 DVI input sends a signal (HOTPLUG) back to the DVI source to
inform the source to drive its DVI output. However, different sources react differently to the
Hotplug signal. This command selects how the VDP-80-720 DVI input Hotplug signal
functions. The NORM option only asserts Hotplug when the respective input is selected. The
ON option always asserts the Hotplug signal.
Typically, NORM is used to connect to an HDCP-encrypted source and ON is used to connect
to a PC.
Genlock causes slight variations in the SMPTE timings when it is enabled.
Not all display devices are designed to be tolerant of these small
variations; consequently Genlock does not work with all displays.
Genlock will only function if the output rate matches the input rate (59.94
for NTSC and 50.00 for most PAL standards). Also, if the horizontal rate is
manually adjusted, Genlock may be disabled.
Note
The VDP-80-720 does not display HDCP-encrypted sources when HDCP is
disabled.
