OPERATION
Shifting Gears
The clutch must be fully disengaged (clutch lever pulled completely in toward the handlebars)
before you attempt to shift gears. Forced shifting (shifting without the clutch disengaged) may
damage the engine, transmission and drive train, causing loss of control of the motorcycle.
WARNING
The motorcycle is equipped with a five-speed transmission.
The gear pattern is shown in the illustrations at right. (*O/D on
100/6 engine only).
TOE SHIFT PEDAL: (Top Photo) Shift to a higher gear by
lifting the front of the pedal with your toe. To shift to a lower
gear, depress the pedal with your toe.
HEEL / TOE SHIFT PEDAL: (Bottom Photo) Shift to a higher
gear by lifting the front peg of the pedal with your toe, or
depress the rear peg of the pedal with your heel. To shift to a
lower gear, depress the front pedal with your toe.
Neutral position is between first and second gear. The
transmission is in neutral when the motorcycle moves forward
or backward freely while the clutch is engaged (clutch lever
released). With the ignition switch set to the ON position, the
neutral indicator illuminates when the transmission is in
neutral.
