Troubleshooting
Problem
Solutions
No GPS data displayed 1. Check that GPS is wired properly. In
particular, if the GPS has NMEA output
using NMEA+ (or NMEA A) and NMEA-
(or NMEA B), be sure the ground from the
GPS is connected to the
AIS
WatchMate
input port ground and not NMEA- (or
NMEA B). Leave NMEA- (or NMEA B)
disconnected.
2. Check “I/O port settings” in setup mode.
Make sure the input port is set to “GPS” or
if GPS data is being routed through an AIS
receiver, the input port is set to “AIS”.
3. Check that GPS is sending “RMC”
sentence. Follow the procedure described
in the Configuration and Installation
section of this document for examining the
raw data being received on the GPS port.
4. Check that the GPS “RMC” sentence has
the valid flag set. The GPS sends a string
of letters and numbers that looks something
like:
$GPRMC,020313.19,A,0856.670,S
,14009.840,W,9.9,0.0,250908,1
