6.4.1 Certificate
By default, the appliance has a self-signed certificate installed that controls the web services and allows access through
HTTPS. This certificate is not signed by a trusted certificate authority, which may lead to browser warnings and errors with
the ActiveX KVM viewer.
To eliminate potential errors, third-party certificates can be imported. Importing a third-party certificate replaces the
default appliance certificate. Contact Avocent Professional Services to delete third-party certificates and restore the default
certificate.
NOTE: The third-party certificate has to be in PKCS12 format.
To import a third-party certificate:
1.
From the sidebar, click
Security
.
2.
Under Third Party Certificate Import, enter and confirm the Certificate and key passphrase.
3.
Click
Import.
4. Browse to the certificate location and click
Open
.
5.
Click
Apply
and restart the appliance.
6.4.2 FIPS 140-2
The appliance follows the guidelines set forth by the FIPS 140-2 program. The FIPS mode of operation can be enabled or
disabled via the web UI and is executed after a reboot. When the FIPS module is enabled, a reboot of the switch requires
approximately two additional minutes to complete a FIPS mode integrity check. Also, when FIPS is enabled, if the keyboard,
mouse or video encryption is set to 128-bit SSL (ARCFOUR) or DES, the encryption level is automatically changed to the
encryption level AES.
The FIPS mode of operation is disabled by default and must be enabled to operate. The Setup port factory default setting
will automatically disable the FIPS module. The FIPS mode cannot be changed via the DSView software plug-in.
NOTE: Enabling or disabling the FIPS 140-2 module removes all third-party certificates and keys and unbinds the
appliance from the DSView software. Some service processor certificates can not be trusted with the FIPS module.
NOTE: SP Access is disabled when the FIPS module is enabled.
