9 Inspection
and
maintenance
9.1 General
notes
In contrast to heaters based on fossil fuels, no expen-
sive maintenance work is necessary for the
Vaillant geoTHERM heat pump. However an annual in-
spection of the system by a specialist is a prerequisite
for continuing operational safety, reliability and a long
working life.
To prevent damage to the heat pump during the con-
struction phase, it must be protected from dust, dirt and
moisture.
d
Danger!
Inspection and repairs may be carried
out only by an approved heating installa-
tion company.
Inspections/Maintenance work not car-
ried out can result in damage to proper-
ty and personal injury.
e
Danger!
Risk of fatal electric shock from touch-
ing live connections! Before commencing
work on the heat pump, disconnect the
power supply (circuit breaker) and se-
cure it against being switched on again
inadvertently.
H
Danger!
Risk of scalding!
Pipes and components of the of the heat
pump system may become extremely
hot during operation. Allow the system
to cool down sufficiently before starting
the inspection and repair work.
a
Danger!
Danger of poisoning!
Combustion of the coolant produces cya-
nide gas. Smoking is prohibited when
carrying out inspection and repair work.
Do not carry out work on the coolant cir-
cuit without emptying it beforehand. Sol-
dering work on the coolant circuit may
only be carried out by expert technicians
in a nitrogen atmosphere.
a
Danger!
Risk of damage!
Only use copper pipes according to
EN 12735-1 when working on the coolant
circuit. Only use servicing devices such
as pressure gauges, hoses etc. that are
suitable for R 407 C coolant.
Only genuine Vaillant replacement parts may be used
for maintenance work, to ensure the long-term working
order of all functions of your Vaillant appliance and to
prevent changes to the approved production standard.
Any spare parts which might be required are listed in
the relevant current spare parts catalogues.
Information can be obtained from Vaillant Customer
Service Centres.
9.2
Inspection work to be performed
The heat pump is engineered in such a way that only a
few inspection tasks need to be carried out:
VWS and VWW:
According to Article 3 of (EC) Ordinance No. 842/2006
of the European Parliament and the Council of
17th May 2006 regarding specific fluorinated green-
house gases, the operator of heat pumps with hermeti-
cally-sealed systems containing more than 6 kg of fluor-
inated greenhouse gases is obliged to have the leak-
tightness of the system checked by qualified personnel
once a year.
• Leak-tightness test of coolant circuit for unit types
VWS/VWW 380/2 (6.7 kg coolant) and unit types
VWS/VWW 460/2 (8.6 kg coolant).
• Visual inspection of all components for possible corro-
sion, wear or fluid leaks.
VWS only:
• Manually actuate the safety groups in the brine and
heating circuits at regular intervals.
• Check the dirt filter in the brine circuit regularly.
• Check the pressures in the brine and heating circuits
regularly.
VWW only:
• Manually actuate the safety groups in the heating cir-
cuit at regular intervals.
• Check the dirt filter in the water circuit regularly.
• Check the pressure in the heating circuit regularly.
9.3 Servicing
and
repairs
The Vaillant geoTHERM heat pump requires no servicing
work.
To carry out repairs to defective parts on the inside of
the heat pump:
• Remove the heat pump cladding sections in the re-
verse order to that described in Chap. 6.10.
