The steering system components include the steering wheel and attached
steering column, which is connected to the steering pivot, 2 steering pivot rods,
and front and rear steering head assemblies (
). With the exception of
the steering wheel and steering column, the steering system components are
attached to the underside of the chassis.
When the steering wheel is turned by the operator, the steering pivot is rotated.
Steering pivot movement causes the front steering head to be rotated by the first
(short) steering rod (item 3). The front steering head and rear steering head are
connected by another (long) steering rod (item 4). Turning of the front steering
head causes the rear steering head to turn, which allows the machine to turn
while in motion.
