TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SERVICE
MAINTENANCE
To maintain maximum functionality and efficiency, and
to comply with the relevant legislation, have the boiler
inspected at regular intervals.
When performing maintenance, always follow the precau-
tions listed in the “GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION”
and "PRECAUTIONS" sections.
Always switch the boiler off if any work or servicing has to
be done on other equipment installed near the flue pipes
and/or flues and associated accessories. On completion
of work, have the efficiency of the flues checked by qual-
ified personnel.
IMPORTANT:
Switch the boiler off at its control panel and
at the mains power switch, and turn off the gas supply
by closing the gas shut-off cock before performing any
cleaning or maintenance on the boiler.
Scheduled maintenance
Scheduled maintenance normally consists of the follow-
ing operations:
- Removal of encrustations from the burner
- Removal of encrustations from the heat exchangers
- Checking and general cleaning of the flue pipes
- Checking of the efficiency of the external casing
- Checking of ignition, normal functioning and shutdown
of the boiler in DHW and CH modes
- Checking of the gas and water pipe joint tightness
- Checking of gas consumption at maximum and mini-
mum power
- Checking of the position of the ignition and flame detec-
tion electrode
- Checking of the gas failure safety system.
Do not use
flammable substances (e.g. petrol, alcohol
etc.) to clean the boiler or any of its parts.
Do not use
paint thinners to clean the casing or any
painted or plastic parts of the boiler. Use only soapy
water to clean the boiler casing.
Extraordinary maintenance
Extraordinary maintenance involves actions designed to
restore the functioning of the boiler to its design specifica-
tions and legal requirements after a failure or malfunction.
These actions can be:
- Part replacements
- Repairs
- Reconditioning of components
These actions generally require special tools and equip-
ment.
Hints for bleeding air out of the cen-
tral heating circuit and burner group
Perform the following operations during installation and
after any repairs.
- Loosen the cap on the automatic vent valve (3).
- Open the central heating circuit fill cock on the valve
group, and wait until water starts to come out of the vent
and bleed valves.
- Switch on the electricity supply to the boiler but leave
the gas cock shut.
- Generate a CH heat request by using the room thermo-
stat or remote control panel to switch the deviator valve
(10) to central heating position.
- Generate a DHW heat request by opening a hot water
tap for about 30 seconds every minute to cycle the
deviator valve from central heating to domestic hot
water and back about a dozen times. (Under these con-
ditions the boiler will generate a gas failure error. Reset
the error as and when it occurs.)
- Continue in this way until bubble-free water comes out
of the vent and bleed valves. Close the automatic vent
valve and the manual bleed valves.
- Check that the pressure in the heating system is correct
(ideally 1 bar).
- Close the system fill cock on the valve group.
- Open the gas shut-off cock and start up the boiler.
