Configuration
This chapter provides information about how to update the microcode and
configure the library, tape drives, and network.
• Firmware is the instructions or data that has been written into read-only-memory
(ROMs, PROMs and EPROMs).
• Microcode is the instructions that directly control a microprocessor. A single
machine-language instruction typically translates into several microcode
instructions.

Updating the Microcode
Library microcode is factory-installed on all new machines and resides within a
Flash PROM on the MPC card.
• For new installations, a diskette with current microcode is provided.
• For upgrades you can download microcode from the multi-platform support
web site at
http://mpss.stortek.com .
This Web site lists the Automated Tape Solutions Library/Drive Matrix along
with the product list (tape drives and libraries), current microcode level,
download file, and release notes.
You must have a personal computer and the following to download the
microcode to the MPC card:
• An RJ45 cable (PN 4108289xx)
• An RJ45—DB9 adapter (PN 10410823) or diagnostic cable (PN 24100134)
Starting with microcode edition 2.20, there are now two methods to download
microcode to the library:
• The DOS method that requires approximately 20 minutes.
• The Hyperterminal method that requires only 6 minutes.
Note: The Hyperterminal method is the preferred method because it requires
less time to download and it will be the only method available for future
libraries.
