RLC Functionality
Multiple operations are available through the RLC. Users of all access levels can view
library, drive, and inventory information, such as that shown in Figure 2-4.
RLC users with Admin or Service access, however, can also use the RLC to:
• Configure the library
• Change passwords
• Set the date and time
• Set the error log mode
• Set event notification parameters
• Restore factory defaults
• Move media within the library
• Import and export media
• Release and replace magazines
• Perform diagnostics
• Update firmware
• Reboot the library remotely
• View library logs
• Clean the tape drive(s)
Detailed information on performing all of these tasks is provided later in this guide.
Caution:
Some RLC operations take the library offline. This can interfere
with host-based application software and cause data loss.
Users should make sure that the library is idle before attempting
to perform any remote operations that take the library offline.
