Chapter 5. Best Practices

Maintaining the RXT-150 and RXT Media
Handling
• Like tape, it’s best to keep the RXT-150 and RXT media as clean as possible. Use
and store them in a dry and clean environment. See
Environmental Specifications
on page 53 for more detail.
• Ensure that the door to the mouth of the
RXT-150 is closed when the RXT-150 is
not in use. Do not reach into the mouth
of the RXT-150.
• Do not touch the pogo pad (the green
and gold board) on the back of the RXT
media pack.
• Handle the RXT media carefully when
transporting it; take care not to drop it
or otherwise subject it to shock.
• If the RXT-150 or RXT media is being shipped, ensure that you have a proper
shipping container and that adequate packing materials are used.
Storing RXT Media
• For short-term storage,
secure the pogo pad cover in
place.
• For long-term storage, pack
the RXT media is in its
original shipping materials
before sending off-site.
• Always store the RXT media
lying flat in a clean and dry
location.
• Spectra Logic recommends storing RXT media in the same type of environment in
which it is used (see
Environmental Specifications
on page 53). This way, the RXT
media is always ready for immediate access.
• If RXT media has been kept in long-term storage outside of the recommended
environmental operating specifications, ensure that the pack temperature comes
within the suggested range before trying to access your data. You should allow at
least 24 hours for this to occur.
• If you are planning on storing the RXT media for long periods of time, make a plan
to access the RXT media packs and their data at least once per year to ensure
continued data integrity. RXT media should be mounted in a RXT-150 and accessed
at lease once every 12 months.
