3.2.7
Muting
Muting temporarily bypasses the protective action of the multiple light beam safety
device so that material can be transported to or from a machine or system. As a result,
the work process remains uninterrupted. The function can be configured during com‐
missioning.
The distinction between people and materials is made by 2 signals that are indepen‐
dent of each other. Based on the logical evaluation of these signals, the protective
device is bypassed if a valid muting condition is present. As soon as something other
than material enters the hazardous area, the work process is interrupted.
3.2.8
IO-Link
Overview
The active unit of the protective devices can communicate with an IO-Link master via
an IO-Link connector, available as an accessory.
The IO-Link connector can also be used to connect 2 muting sensors.
Prerequisites
•
The protective device must be supplied with voltage to enable communication with
an IO-Link master via the IO-Link connector.
Data exchange and IO-Link communication
The following data can be exchanged and transferred via IO-Link, for example:
•
Application diagnostic output status information
•
Device information and device status, e.g. name, serial number, type code, status
of OSSDs, muting status or quality of alignment
•
Configuration of the device, e.g. whether the restart interlock is activated
•
Status of each individual light beam
•
Error history
•
Reasons for the last lockout (lockout status)
The following status indicators can be controlled via IO-Link:
•
LED light behavior of the INFO-LED and the integrated indicator lamp (optional)
IO-Link is deactivated each time the protective device is switched on. IO-Link communi‐
cation is not started until the IO-Link master has sent a defined signal (wake-up pulse)
to the protective device and this has been detected.
Complementary information
Additional information on connecting the IO-Link connector can be found in the IO-Link
connector mounting instructions.
You can find additional information on IO-Link in the IODD and the SDD for SOPAS ET.

Near Field Communication (NFC)
Overview
The active unit of the multiple light beam safety device has an integrated NFC interface
for transmitting diagnostic data of the protective device to an NFC-capable device.
