Using CLI to Manage the Access Point

AP-8000 User Guide

Command Line Interface Modes Overview

The Command Line Interface (CLI) is divided into different command modes. Each command mode has its own set of 
commands that manage the network operations. The commands that are available depends on the mode that you are in. 

CLI operates in two main modes:

• User Execution Mode
• Privileged Mode

User Execution Mode

The moment you logon to the device, with Username and Password, you enter into the User mode. For configuring the 
device, you must be in the privileged mode which can be entered by executing the 

enable

 command from the User 

Mode.

Example

System Name>

To view more commands in this mode, the user has to type question mark (?). 

System Name>?

Possible completions:

disable     Turn off privileged commands
enable      Turn on privileged commands
exit        Exit from EXEC
show        Show

To use the privileged mode, you need to type “

enable

” command from the User mode.

System Name>enable

Privileged Mode

In this mode, you can view all the configured parameters of the device. This mode is identified by a pound sign (#) at the 
command prompt.

To configure any parameter in this mode, you need to enter 

Global Configuration Mode

 by using 

configure

 command.

Example

System Name(config)#

This brings the CLI into a special mode called 

Global Configuration Mode

, where full access is provided to the user for 

configuring the device through CLI. The command prompt of this mode uses an interactive hierarchical format which 
shows the configuration level the user is in and with its name.
