Chapter 9 – Controllers and Floppy Disk Drives

The third LED, LED L3, indicates the relative amount of CPU activity. Referring to Figure 9–3, when the
CPU is 100% utilized, L3 will be off. L3 will be on at full intensity when the CPU is idle, such as when the
CPU tasks are running faster than the printer engine speed. During normal operating conditions, LED L3
will be somewhere between the two extremes of continuously on and continuously off, and will appear
dimmed. This condition is indicated by the gray area labelled “Normal CPU Usage Range” in Figure 9–3.
Increasing CPU utilization causes L3 to decrease in intensity, and vice-versa.
