Engine hood release
Pull lever on left underneath
dashboard. Pull safety hook
under hood. Lift engine hood.
Battery
Underneath spare tire in lug-
gage compartment. Check each
cell. Top up with distilled water.
Never disconnect battery while
engine is running: this will
destroy the alternator.
Before connecting quick-char-
ger, battery must be d i s c o n -
nected.
Brake fluid reservoir
Level should be between MIN
and M A X marks.
Only use new, unused brake
fluid according to SAE r e c o m -
mendation J 1703 or D O T 3 and
c o n f o r m i n g to M o t o r Vehicle
Safety Standard 116.
Do not use silicone base brake
fluid ( D O T 5). Even the smallest
traces may cause severe cor-
rosion in the brake system.
Engine oil dipstick
Check oil level a few minutes
after engine has s t o p p e d . Level
should be between upper and
lower marks on dipstick. Differ-
ence between marks is approx.
1.1 U.S. qt. or 1 liter.
Engine oil
Use only quality HD oils "For
Service A P I / S E " . Details under
"Filling C a p a c i t i e s " . W i t h o u t
filter change 6.87 U.S. qts.
(5.72 Imp. qts./6.5 liters); with
filter change 7.93 U.S. qts. or
7.5 liters; w i t h filter change
8.45 U.S. qts. or 8 liters.
Check oil level as prescribed.
Manual transmission
For manual transmission (also
f o r limited slip differential) use
hypoid oil S A E 7 5 W - 9 0 labeled
"For service API/GL5 or M i l - L
2105 B". If multi-grade hypoid
is not readily available, use
ATF D e x r o n ® . Total quantity
approx. 4 U.S. q t s . or 3.8 liters.
Automatic transmission
ATF lubricates torque converter
and transmission. Check ATF
level visually through transpa-
rent reservoir at rear end of
transmission housing when ATF
is warm, w i t h engine idling,
selector lever in Neutral and
car on level g r o u n d .
Should level be below M I N or
above M A X mark, do not just
add or drain ATF. Have an
authorized dealer correct the
cause promptly.
