Air conditioning
Operating hints
Mixing cold and warm air
The air c o n d i t i o n i n g system w o r k s only
when the engine is running. W h e n the air
distribution c o n t r o l lever (lower lever) is
moved to the " A C " position, the air c o n -
ditioning compressor is activated. C o o l air
temperature is kept constant by a thermo-
static sensor, located between the c o o l i n g
fins of the evaporator. The air from the
interior of the car is drawn through the
evaporator, where it is c o o l e d . The cool air
returns through air outlets in the center c o n -
sole and f o o t wells, the glove c o m p a r t m e n t
nozzle and the armrest vents.
Air conditioning controls
To obtain maximum cooling . . .
- move upper lever to left
- move lower lever to " A C "
- turn fan speed rotary knob to " M A X "
- open side w i n d o w vents in armrests
- close w i n d o w s
Caution: Should you suspect that the air
conditioner is damaged, have it checked
promptly. Leaks must be sealed immediately,
since loss of refrigerant may result in
serious damage to the air conditioner
system.
Direct the air f l o w by adjusting the air vents
in the center console and in the armrests. If
the car has been standing in the hot sun, it
is best to open the w i n d o w s first to permit
the hot air to escape. Once the desired cool
air temperature has been attained, reduce
the fan speed. If the w i n d o w s fog over in
humid and c o l d weather, move the upper
lever t o w a r d the right.
If cool air flow decreases
The thermostatic sensor will prevent the
evaporator from icing up. If extreme c o n d i -
tions, such as high outside temperature,
dense humidity or driving at high altitude
cause the evaporator to ice up, you will
notice a decrease of cool air flow. To permit
the evaporator to defrost, move the lower
lever to the center and reduce the fan
s p e e d .
After the evaporator has d e f r o s t e d , the c o n -
trols can be reset for maximum c o o l i n g .
If cool air stops completely . . .
Turn the air conditioner off and see your
authorized dealer. He has the qualified per-
sonnel and proper w o r k s h o p equipment to
c o r r e c t the problem.
For more c o m f o r t during periods of high
humidity and low temperatures, the air c o n -
ditioner can be t u r n e d on together w i t h the
heating system . . .
- move upper lever t o w a r d right for desired
heating output
- move lower lever to " A C "
- turn fan switch knob to desired speed
These adjustments will provide a pleasant
mixture of c o o l / w a r m air circulation. The air
in the car will be dehumidified and f o g g e d
up w i n d o w s will clear up.
Maintenance
During the winter season, it is advisable
to operate the air conditioner briefly at
least once a month, to help keep the seals
lubricated. The condenser should be check-
ed periodically for cleanliness. If c l o g g e d
w i t h dirt or insects, the condenser should be
washed d o w n w i t h water. After the w i n t e r
months and before extended summer usage,
the air conditioner should be checked and,
if necessary, serviced by your authorized
dealer.
