Starting Engine
Fuel Economy
For your safety, fasten your seat belts!
Before starting the engine, make sure the
gearshift lever is in Neutral.
If the engine fails to start after 10 to 15
seconds of cranking, wait about 10 seconds
before restarting.
When starting at low outside temperatures,
also depress the clutch pedal, so that the
starter only has to crank the engine.
Starting at low outside temperatures
W h e n starting in c o l d weather, fully depress
the clutch pedal so that the starter only has
to crank the engine.
Caution: Never start or let the engine run in
an enclosed unventilated area. Exhaust
fumes from the engine contain carbon mon-
oxide which is a colorless and odorless gas.
Carbon monoxide can be fatal if inhaled.
Temperature sensors on the engine auto-
matically provide the c o r r e c t fuel/air mixture
required for starting. Do not depress the
accelerator pedal when starting the engine.
This applies to a warm or cold engine.
As soon as the engine starts, release the
ignition key.
If the engine does not start the first time or
stalls, turn the ignition key to the "off"
position and restart.
D o n ' t heat up the engine in idling. Start at
once, however, avoid high speeds or full
throttle before the engine has reached its
normal operating temperature.
If you have an automatic garage d o o r . . .
The transistorized ignition system in your
Porsche may interfere w i t h your electron-
ically operated garage door. To check this:
drive your Porsche close to the garage door
and run the engine at different speeds.
If the garage d o o r opens or closes without
your operating the garage door unit in your
car, c o n t a c t the dealer w h o installed the
automatic garage door to have the frequency
and/or c o d i n g of the garage door signal
modified.
Fuel economy will vary depending on
w h e r e , w h e n and how you drive, optional
equipment installed, and the general c o n d i -
tion of your car. A car tuned to specifications
and c o r r e c t l y maintained, will help you get
maximum fuel economy.
- K e e p a light f o o t on the gas pedal.
- D r i v e smoothly, avoid quick acceleration,
sudden changes in s p e e d and abrupt
stops.
- A v o i d unnecessary idling. Turn the engine
off.
- Do not carry unnecessary weight.
- Use air conditioner only when needed.
- Wheels should be aligned and tires in-
flated at c o r r e c t pressures.
Engine Oil Consumption
Oil consumption in the engine is normal.
The rate of oil consumption depends on the
quality and v i s c o s i t y of o i l , the speed at
which the engine is operated, the climate,
road conditions as well as the amount of
dilution and oxidation of the lubricant.
During the break-in period oil consumption
may be slightly higher than normal.
