
Changing oil filter
The oil filter should be changed at the inter-
vals listed in your Maintenance Schedule.
1 - loosen oil filter element w i t h appropriate
wrench and remove
2 - lightly coat new filter seal with oil
3 - screw on new filter element until seal
just contacts the crankcase. O n l y hand-
tighten according to filter manufacturer's
instructions on container or filter ele-
ment.
4 - run the engine and check f o r leaks.
Changing engine oil
The engine oil should be changed at the in-
tervals listed in your Maintenance Schedule.
If you drive mostly short distances or in
dusty areas, the engine oil should be
changed more frequently.
W i t h the engine at operating temperature
and the ignition off,
1 - loosen and remove oil filler cap
2 - loosen oil drain plug (arrow) on oil pan
and allow oil to drain c o m p l e t e l y
3 - clean oil drain plug and replace, using a
new gasket. Do not overtighten the plug.
4 - fill the crankcase w i t h about 8.5 U.S. q t s .
or 8 liters of engine oil labeled "For
Service A P I / S E " (see "Filling Capac-
i t i e s " )
5 - check the oil level with dipstick and r e -
install oil filler cap
6 - run engine to operating temperature and
check for leaks.
Be mindful of how you dispose of used
engine oil. Do not dump it on garden soil,
wooded areas, into open streams or down
sewage drains. Your zoning regulations or
environmental rules will tell you how you
can dispose of it. Should the disposal of old
engine oil present a problem, we suggest
that you have your oil changes at your
dealer or at a service station.
