Break-in Hints
for the first 1.000 miles/
1.600 kilometers
Do not let the engine labor, especially when
driving uphill. Shift to the next proper gear
in time (use the most favorable rpm range).
There may be as slight stiffness in the steer-
ing, gearshifting or other c o n t r o l s during the
break-in p e r i o d , which will gradually dis-
appear.
Breaking in new tires
N e w tires do not have maximum traction.
They tend to be slippery. Break in new tires
by driving at moderate speeds during the
first 60 to 120 miles/100 to 200 k m .
Never lug the engine in high gear at low
speeds. This rule applies all the time, not
just during the break-in period.
There are no specific break-in rules f o r your
Porsche; however, by observing a f e w pre-
cautions during the first miles, you can in-
crease the service life and performance of
your engine.

each other to a certain d e g r e e . T h e r e f o r e :
Maximum engine speed
The red mark on the tachometer dial serves
as an optical reminder not to overrev the e n -
gine. The s p e e d limiting g o v e r n o r prevents
o v e r r e v v i n g the engine under load by limit-
ing the engine s p e e d . The tolerance of the
speed governor is + 200 r p m .
A v o i d full throttle starts and abrupt stops.
Change speeds frequently. V a r y the throttle
load.
Breaking in brake pads
Do not exceed max. engine speed of 5.000
rpm (revolutions per minute).
Do not run a c o l d engine at high rpm or in
N e u t r a l .
Brake pads do not have maximum braking
efficiency w h e n the car is new. Therefore
more pedal f o r c e is necessary during t h e
first 120 miles/200 km. This also applies to
replacement brake pads.
