Description of the THERMOMARK X1.1
With thermal transfer printing, heat from the printhead causes the color layer of a transfer
foil to be transferred to the print media.
The THERMOMARK X1.1 is equipped with all common interfaces in order to ensure
problem-free connection to computers and networks.
The THERMOMARK X1.1 can be connected to 100 V to 240 V AC mains networks without
any type of adapter.
The THERMOMARK X1.1 can be monitored and operated via the large graphic LCD and
the context-controlled navigator pad.
1.2
Thermal Transfer Printing
Pointwise heating by the printhead causes color particles from the color coating of an ink
ribbon to be transferred to uncoated media. The ink ribbon can only be used once for
printing. A wide range of media is suitable for thermal transfer printing.
1.2.1
Ink Ribbon
Select an ink ribbon that is only slightly wider than the print media:
–
If the ink ribbon is too narrow, the printhead comes into contact with the media
Wear
–
If the ink ribbon is too wide, there is a risk of creasing
Print image errors
The presence of an ink ribbon is detected by checking the rotation of the ribbon supply hub.
In order to print cleanly up to the end of the ink ribbon, the trailing tape must be no longer
than 60 mm. The end of the ink ribbon must come away easily from the cardboard core.
1.2.2
Notes on Print Media
The print results depend to a great degree on a suitable combination of label and ink
ribbon.
Low-quality ink ribbon can lead to premature damage to the printhead.
The print quality essentially depends on how well the coloring from the ink ribbon
adheres to the media. Run tests if necessary.
Low-quality ink ribbon can lead to premature wear of the printhead and result in a poor
print image.
Only use print media from Phoenix Contact. See "Ordering Data" on page A-5.
