Collecting the Spectrum of a Thick Sample
You can lower the stage in order to focus on a thick sample. For very thick samples,
this requires the removal of the lower cassegrain assembly and then the reflectance
method can be used to view the sample and collect its spectrum.
To collect the spectrum of a thick sample
1.
Release the locking lever, at the back of the lower cassegrain assembly on the
right (Figure 22).

Gently slide the cassegrain assembly forward and out of the dovetail
connector.
NOTE: To make withdrawal easier, pull the locking lever gently.
3.
Turn the Correction knob to lower the dovetail connector to the bottom of its
range of travel.
4.
Lower the stage using the Focus knob.
Continue as in
on page 85 except that you must set the
Trans/Refl
knob to
Refl
.
