CHAPTER 5 FUNCTION ITEMS

Supplementary Explanation
• When the sampling period is changed, measurement may be offset in units of ten
(microns). The same applies when an extension cable is used or its length changed.
• When the sampling period is changed, recognize that 0.5 sec. to 3 sec. are needed
before operation status is reached, depending on the sampling period changed. When
the average number of samples is OFF, ensure a time of (Sampling period × Average
number of samples). During this period, laser emission is stopped, the laser emission
indicator of the sensor head is turned off, and the analog output is in alarm output status.
The measurement range indicator holds the status before the sampling period is changed.
The alarm output during this period becomes unstable.
• To change the sampling period, set the low or high pass filter, or set the hold mode to
anything other than NORM., see page 5-3.
• When 2 sensor heads are connected, the shortest sampling period is restricted using the
specular reflection mode setting (page 5-16), a simplified optical filter (page 5-23),
emission adjustment setting (page 5-13) and data buffering (page 6-26 as shown in the
table below.

(*3) The sampling period is set to 144µs when either is selected.
(*4) The sampling period is set to 200µs when either is selected.
• When the sampling period set is shorter than the shortest
period in the above table or when the shortest sampling period
is restricted using the specular reflection mode setting or an
optical filter, the Warning screen at the right is displayed. The
the sampling period is changed to the shortest period allowed.
• When the sampling period is restricted using "Selection of data buffering mode" (page
6-32), the hold mode cannot be selected because an error code (page 6-37) is returned.
• If the sampling period is increased to measure objects using specular reflection,
measurement may be improper with the DARK indicator turned on, or with the BRIGHT
and DARK indicators turned on at the same time. Try reducing sampling period.
• When measuring during add/subtract operation or measuring a diffused substance under
specular reflection mode, the sampling period may exceed 100µs. Set the sampling period
to 144µs.
