Troubleshooting Tips 5-3
Windows NT
1.
Check the power supply to make sure power is applied.
2.
Check the parallel port cable for tight connections. Try all of the protocols listed in the Daq device
Configuration control panel. The parallel port might have a communication protocol other than
standard or normal mode.
3.
If you still have not established communications, go to Control Panel, Devices, Hardware Profiles,
Parallel Port and verify the parallel port drivers are installed. If the drivers are not installed, you
need to resolve this with your computer manufacturer. Also, check that the parallel port has an
interrupt level assigned to it by looking at the parallel port resources in the Daq device
Configuration control panel.
4.
If it is necessary to add an interrupt level or to change the parallel port communication port, you
need to access the BIOS during computer booting. You should see a message that reads similar to
“Press F2 to enter setup.” If the parallel port is configured for ECP or EPP, change it to standard
or normal; then reboot the computer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Note
: Most of these questions pertain to older devices.
Q: What are the input and output signal levels on P2 and P3?
A:
P2 and P3 are TTL compatible with high levels no greater than 5 volts and low signals at 0 volts or
ground.
Q: What DBK options require the SSH jumper on JP2 to operate?
A:
The SSH jumper must be installed on DaqBook/100 Series devices, DaqBook/200 Series devices and
ISA-Type DaqBoards to operate the following DBK options: DBK2, DBK4, DBK5, DBK7, DBK17,
DBK45, DBK50 and DBK51. Daq PC Cards do not have a JP2, but will operate these cards as long as
power for these cards is available.
Q: How do I set a DaqBook/112 to measure single-ended vs differential analog input signals?
A:
DaqBook/100, DaqBook/112, and DaqBook/120 models are set by JP4's position. DaqBook/200,
DaqBook/216, and all DaqBoard models and Daq PC Cards are set by software commands.
All Daq devices must be set to single ended mode in order for DBK options to operate.
Q: How do I set a DaqBook/100 device to measure bipolar (+5v to -5v) instead of unipolar (0 to 10v)
analog input signals?
A:
DaqBook/100, DaqBook /112, and DaqBook /120 models are set by JP3's position and are unable to
mix bipolar and unipolar input signals (unless using a DBK15 option). DaqBook/200, DaqBook /216,
all DaqBoard models and Daq PC Cards are set by software commands and are able to mix bipolar and
unipolar inputs by channel.
Q: I am trying to measure differential signals, but my Daq device is not reading the signal correctly.
What could be wrong?
A:
The Daq device must be configured to measure differential signals. Differential signals are measured by
reading the signal at the high input with respect to common and then subtract the signal at the low input
with respect to common. In addition, common must be connected at the Daq device in order to measure
the differential signal accurately. If the signal being measured only has 2 wires, connect a 100 K
Ω
resistor between low and common to provide a reference.
