Trace Resistance
Figure 117 – Single Phase Trace Resistance Page
Trace resistance is used to generate alarms when the heat trace circuit is operating at a resistance that
is either lower/higher than the nominal resistance. It can be used to effectively guard against accidental
paralleling of heat trace circuits. Care must be taken when using this alarm with heating cables that
exhibit a variable resistance with temperature.
5.8.4.1 High/Low Trace Resistance Alarm and Nominal Resistance Settings
Figure 118 - High/Low Trace Resistance Settings
Procedure:
Touch the corresponding
Enable
check box to turn on/off the corresponding Alarm indication and touch
the corresponding
Latch c
heck box to indicate a latching or a non-latching alarm type. When latching is
selected, the alarm will need to be manually reset each time the corresponding alarm occurs.
Figure 119 - Trace Resistance Setpoint & Filter Settings
Filter:
When the resistance exceeds the High Resistance Setpoint or drops below the Low Resistance
Setpoint, the controller will trigger an alarm if the corresponding High/Low alarm condition is present
for the duration of the filter period (0 - 28 seconds). If an immediate alarm indication is desired,
the corresponding filter value should be set to 0.
