Setup and Operation 2-27
NOTE:
It is not possible to charge the main
battery when the power is on and the AC adapter
is plugged in if a VersaBay module (i.e. the
PCMCIA Pak) is installed.
To recharge the battery, simply attach the AC adapter to the system. Charging the main
battery with a Quick Charge takes 1.5 hours with power off. Charging the main battery with
a Normal Charge takes 2.7 hours with power on. These time increments assume that there
are no options connected to the Versa P.
Discharging the Battery Pack
The Discharge utility (DCHARGE) drains all the power from the battery. Sometimes a bat-
tery does not last as long if not fully discharged between charges. The discharging process
takes several minutes depending on how charged the battery was.
Use the following steps to discharge a battery pack.
1.
Check to see that a battery pack is installed in the system.
2.
Save any necessary files and exit Windows.
3.
If the AC adapter is connected to the system, disconnect it.
4.
At the MS-DOS prompt, type
dcharge
and press
Enter
. The Discharge screen
appears with a confirmation message.
5.
Press any key to start the discharging process. The discharging procedure runs
without any power management settings invoked. Press any key to stop the proc-
ess.
When the system turns off, discharging is complete. Allow the battery to cool to
room temperature for approximately 30 minutes.
6.
Connect the AC adapter to recharge the battery pack.
NOTE:
The Discharge utility also discharges the
bridge battery. When completely drained, the
bridge battery requires 24 hours to fully charge.
