2-32 Setup and Operation
Performing an update is done with a BIOS flash diskette. The diskette, which contains the
latest version of the BIOS code, can be obtained from NECCSD Technologies or, if a
modem is available, the latest BIOS can be downloaded from NECCSD’s Bulletin Board
Service (BBS).
If a modem is available, use the following procedure to access the BBS for the latest
version of the BIOS Update utility. How to flash the BIOS with a flash diskette is described
following the BBS access procedure.
See the following subsection, “NEC Bulletin Board Service,” for information about using
the bulletin board (available in the U.S. and Canada).
NECCSD Bulletin Board Service
If you have access to a modem, the NECCSD Bulletin Board Service (BBS) can be used to
provides the latest BIOS information. The BBS allows you to download files (ICU, video
drivers, printer drivers, BIOS updates, etc.). The BBS can also be accessed through the
CompuServe online service.
Log onto the BBS as follows.

and upgrades.

Log onto the BBS as follows.

From the Windows desktop, click the
Start
button.
2.
Point to Programs. Point to Accessories and then click
HyperTerminal
.
3.
Double click the
Hypertrm.exe
icon. The HyperTerminal program appears.
4.
Follow the instructions on the screen to set up the modem. Click the
HyperTerminal Help button for information about dialing the phone number.
If you need to check communications settings, check that the settings match the
following BBS parameters.
Baud rate: select any baud rate that matches the modem
Parity: none
Data bits: 8
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: Xon/Xoff (select Hardware if using 14.4 bps or higher)
