Motorola PowerQUICC II
PPC/PMC-8260/DS1
5 - 7
To be able to use the serial interfaces, you have to program the respective serial
controllers in your driver.
For the availability of serial I/O channels refer to Table 8 “Availablility of Serial
I/O Channels” page 3-4.
Serial E
2
PROM
A serial E
2
PROM (24C02) is connected to the PowerQUICC II I
2
C controller via a
two-wire interface (SDA and SCL lines). The serial E
2
PROM has a capacity of
2048 bit, and is internally organized as 256 x 8 bit. In the first 128 bytes the Board
Information Block (BIB) of the PPC/PMC-8260/DS1 is contained.
Note: Do not overwrite the first 128 byte of the serial E
2
PROM, otherwise the
PPC/PMC-8260/DS1 does not boot. Therefore, use only the last 128 byte for
your data.
The serial E
2
PROM’s address pins are connected to GND which means that the I
2
C
device’s address is 0
16
. For details on the device operations refer to the
Serial
E
2
PROM Data Sheet

Serial Interface with Time Slot Assigner and Multi-Channel Controller
Two Serial Interface (SI) blocks in the PowerQUICC II (SI1 and SI2) can be pro-
grammed to handle eight TDM lines concurrently. TDM channels on SI1 are
referred to as TDMa1, TDMb1, TDMc1, TDMd1; TDM channels on SI2 are
TDMa2, TDMb2, TDMc2, TDMd2.
Each SI has the following features:
•
Connect to four independent TDM channels. Each TDM can be one T1 or E1
line.
•
Independent, programmable transmit and receive routing paths
•
Internal routing and strobe selection can be dynamically programmed.
•
Supports automatic echo and loopback mode for each TDM.
The PowerQUICC II’s two multi-channel controllers (MCC1 and MCC2) each
handle up to 128 serial, full-duplex data channels. The 128 channels are divided
into four subgroups of 32 channels each. One or more subgroups can be multi-
plexed through corresponding SIx TDM channels; MCC1 connects through SI1,
and MCC2 uses SI2. Each channel can be programmed separately either to perform
HDLC formatting/ deformatting or to act as a transparent channel. The MCCs pro-
vide independent mapping for receive/transmit and up to 256 DMA channels with
