SCM4000
Operator’s Guide/Tech Ref Manual
Key features of the SCM4000 are as follows:
•
The SCM4000 can be configured as a Modulator,
Demodulator, or both a Modulator and a Demodulator.
•
Allows simplex or duplex operation depending upon the
SCM4000 configuration.
•
Available with an optional MPEG Encoder or Decoder.
•
Provides user control for functional parameters via front
panel controls and alphanumeric display.
•
Modulation options include QPSK, 16 QAM, 32 QAM, and
64 QAM.
•
Channel types accepted by the SCM4000 include DVB/
ASI, DS3/E3, T1/E1, RS232/RS485, 10/100 Ethernet,
and SMPTE310M.

General
The front panel of the SCM4000 (
) contains a
POWER
LED, an
ALERT
LED, an
ALARM
LED,
an alphanumeric display, and six function keys. The front panel
also contains an RS232 connector, located behind an access
cover, to provide interface connections to a Windows-based PC.
The rear panel of the SCM4000 contains the I/O connectors, the
input power connector, the power switch, and a fuse.
Controls, indicators, and connectors contained on all
configurations of the SCM4000 are identified and described in
the
“Routine Operation” Chapter on page 3-1
.
Modulator and Demodulator Configurations
The base
Modulator and Demodulator configurations of the SCM4000
each contain one set of I/O connectors.

Demodulator configuration rear panel contains two sets of I/O
connectors.
Modulator/Encoder Configuration
The Modulator/Encoder
configuration contains one set of I/O connectors, a
VIDEO
input
connector and two
AUDIO

Demodulator/Decoder Configuration
The Demodulator/
Decoder configuration also contains one set of I/O connectors, a
VIDEO
output connector and two
AUDIO
connectors.
