Possibilities for operation
5.1 Operation in the open air
If at all possible, the generator should be operated in the open air. This guarantees the best possible flow for fresh and exhaust air.
An ideal location for use of the electricity generator is an open space with no buildings within 5 metres. Within this area, it is not
permitted to store any flammable or explosive material, such as fuel etc. The machine must be placed on a level base. The generator
may be protected from direct sunlight by a protective roof, provided that flow of fresh and exhaust air is not restricted thereby.
5.2 Stationary operation in enclosed rooms
The operation of electricity generators in enclosed rooms is subject to the observance of decrees by a wide range of authorities such
as
- Landesbauordnungen (LBO - State Building Regulations)
- Regulations for Execution of the LBO,
- Circulars from the State Ministries
- Technical Regulations regarding Flammable Liquids (TVbF),
- DIN 18600 "Guidelines for the Construction and Operation of Meeting Places" - guidelines laid down by the power supply com-
pany,
- Regional TÜV (Technical Supervisory Office) regulations regarding garages,
- VDE 0100 and VDE 0108 Regulations for Electrical Equipment in Meeting Places.
When operated in enclosed rooms, arrangements must be made to guarantee an unhindered flow of fresh air to the machine (to
avoid danger of overheating) and exhaust air from the machine (to avoid risk of poisoning). The room must be dry, clean and pro-
tected against dust. No flammable materials may be stored here. The routing of exhaust gases must be most carefully planned on
account of poisonous carbon monoxide. Flexible exhaust pipes are intrinsically liable to gas leaks meaning that poisonous carbon
monoxide may escape. For this reason, the planning and installation of such systems must be put in the hands of an expert.
6. Noise
levels
The generator produces a noise level of 96 dB(A).
This corresponds with a sound pressure level of 68 dB(A) at a distance of 10 metres.
7.
Operation of electricity-consuming equipment
Selection of the electricity user must take account of the performance capacity of the generator. Specialist advice should be sought
when deciding on the size of the generator.
In the case of units without starter booster, inductive consumers of which the power is at most 30% of that of the generator may also
be operated. In this connection, we must expressly state that the above rule-of-thumb has only limited application.
