Stop the vehicle com pletely before
shifting into reverse; to shift into
reverse, pull the gearshift lever up.
Do not exceed the m axim um
engine speed in the individual
gears. Refer to tachom eter (see
Index) for engine speeds.
Im portant!
When vehicle is parked, alw ays be
sure to engage first o r reverse gear
and firm ly set parking brake.
W hen parked on an incline, also
turn front wheel tow ards the road
curb.
Downshifting gears leading to
overreving the engine can result in
transm ission dam age that is not
covered by the M ercedes-Benz
Limited W arranty.
Do not exceed engine speed limits
(see Tachom eter in Index).
W arning!
On slippery road surfaces as
well as high engine speeds,
never dow nshift in order to
obtain braking action. This
could result in drive wheel slip
and reduced vehicle control.
Y o u r v e h ic le ’s ABS will not
prevent this type of loss of
control.
