Do not tow with sling-type equ ip
ment. Front towing with sling-type
equipm ent over bum py roads will
dam age radiator and supports.
Rear towing with sling-type equ ip
ment over bum py roads will
dam age the low er edge of the front
bum per cover.
Use wheel lift, dolly, or flat bed
equipm ent, with key in steering
lock turned to position 0.
Towing restrictions for vehicles
with autom atic transm ission:
The vehicle may be towed with all
wheels on the ground and the
selector lever in position “ N” for
distances up to 30 m iles (50 km)
and at a speed not to exceed
30 mph (50 km/h). The key m ust
be in steering lock position 2.
To positively avoid a possibility of
dam age to the transm ission,
however, we recomm end to dis
connect the drive shaft at the rear
axle drive flange on any towing
beyond a short tow to a nearby
garage.
W ith the engine not running,
there is no pow er assistance
fo r the braking and steering
system s. In this case, it is
im portant to keep in m ind that
a considerably higher degree
of effort is necessary to brake
and steer the vehicle.

Im portant!
W hen towing the vehicle, please,
note the following:
W ith the autom atic central locking
activated and the key in steering
lock position 2, the vehicle doors
lock if the left front w heel as well as
the right rear wheel are turning at
vehicle speeds of approx. 9 mph
(15 km/h) or more.
To prevent the vehicle door locks
from locking, deactivate the
autom atic central locking.
To signal turns while being towed
with hazard warning flasher in use,
turn key in steering lock to posi
tion 2 and activate com bination
switch for left or right turn signal in
usual m anner - only the selected
turn signal will operate.
Upon canceling the turn signal, the
hazard w arning flasher will operate
again.
Caution!
Vehicles with A cceleration Slip
R egulation (ASR)
If the vehicle is towed with the front
axle raised, the engine m ust be
shut off (key in steering lock
position 0 or 1). Otherwise, the
ASR will im m ediately be engaged
and will apply the rear wheel
brakes.
