Jump Starting
W arning!
Failure to follow these direc
tions will cause dam age to the
electronic com ponents, and
can lead to a battery explosion
and severe injury or death.
Never lean over batteries w hile
connecting or jum p starting,
you m ight get injured.
Battery fluid contains sulfuric
acid. Do not allow this fluid to
com e in contact with eyes,
skin or clothing. In case it
does, im m ediately flush
affected area with water,
and seek m edical help if
necessary.
A battery will also produce
hydrogen gas, w hich is
flam m able and very explosive.
Keep flam es or sparks away
from battery, avoid im proper
connection of jum per cables,
sm oking etc..
Read all instructions before
proceeding.
If the battery is discharged, the
engine should be started with
jum pe r cables and the (12 V)
battery of another vehicle.
The battery is located in the engine
com partm ent.
Proceed as follows:
1. Position the vehicle with the
charged battery so that the
jum pe r cables will reach, but
never let the vehicles touch.
M ake sure the jum per cables do
not have loose or missing
insulation.
2. On both vehicles:
• Turn off engine and all lights
and accessories, except
hazard w arning flashers or
w ork lights.
• A pply parking brake and shift
selector lever to position “ P”
(m anual transm ission to
Neutral).
3. Clam p one end of the first
jum per cable to the positive (+)
term inal of the discharged
battery and the o ther end to the
positive (+) term inal of the
charged battery. M ake sure the
cable clam ps do not touch any
other metal parts.
4. Clam p one end of the second
jum per cable to the grounded
negative ( -) term inal of the
charged battery and the final
connection to a grounded heavy
metal bracket in the engine
com partm ent or on the engine
of the disabled vehicle.
Im portant!
5. Start engine of the vehicle with
the charged battery and run at
high idle. M ake sure the cables
are not on or near pulleys, fans,
or other parts that will move
when the engine is started.
Allow the discharged battery to
charge for a few m inutes. Start
engine of the disabled vehicle in
the usual m anner.
