Driving Instructions
Brakes
W arning!
If you feel a sudden significant
vibration or ride disturbance,
or you suspect that possible
dam age to your vehicle has
occurred, you should turn on
the hazard w arning flashers,
carefully slow dow n, and drive
with caution to an area which
is a safe distance from the
roadway.
Inspect the tires and under the
vehicle for possible dam age. If
the vehicle or tires appear
unsafe, have it towed to the
nearest M ercedes-B enz or tire
dealer for repairs.
Pow er A ssistance
W arning!
W hen the engine is not run
ning, the brake and steering
system s are w ithout pow er
assistance. Under these cir
cum stances, a much greater
effort is necessary to stop or
steer the vehicle.
W arning!
A fter driving in heavy rain for
som e tim e w ith o u t applying
the brakes or throu g h w ater
deep enough to w et brake
com ponents, the first braking
action m ay be som ew h at re
duced and increased pedal
pressure m ay be necessary.
Be sure to m aintain a safe
distance from veh icles in
front.
Resting you r foot on the brake
pedal will cause excessive and
p rem ature w ear of the brake
pads.
It can also result in the brakes
overheating thereb y sig nifi
cantly reducing th e ir effective
ness. It may not be possible to
stop the vehicle in sufficient
tim e to avoid an accident.
The condition of the parking brake
system is checked each tim e the
vehicle is in the shop for the
required service.
If the parking brake is released and
the brake w arning lamp in the
instrum ent cluster stays on, the
brake fluid level in the reservoir is
too low.
Brake pad w ear or a leak in the
system may be the reason for low
brake fluid in the reservoir.
Have the brake system inspected
at an authorized M ercedes-Benz
dealer imm ediately.
All checks and service w ork on the
brake system should be carried out
by an authorized M ercedes-Benz
dealer.
Install only brake pads and brake
fluid recom m ended by M ercedes-
Benz.
W arning!
If oth er than recom m ended
brake pads are installed, or
o th er than recom m ended
brake fluid is used, the braking
properties of the vehicle can
be degraded to an extent that
safe braking is substantially
im paired. This could result in
an accident.
